Welcome to Ms. Stanford's class!

Overview:

This website is used to explain my classroom management system to my students and their parents. It provides information about my class such as my grading system, rules for the classroom, and different teaching styles I plan to employ. It also creates a learning environment that is organized and positive for the students and hopefully keeps them engaged with the content. My classroom management system was designed for a social studies classroom targeting high school age students, preferrably 9-12 grades. The aspects of the system were written with a rural setting and medium structure in mind.

Philosophy of Education:

As a teacher of social studies, I believe the best way for students to learn about my content area is through reflective inquiry. Unless students decide to choose a career in social studies, the important information they will take from my class will not be historical dates and facts they memorized. In my classroom, students will develop and refine skills such as critical thinking, research, and reflecting on ideas. Many assignments and projects the students will be completing are focused on real world application.
I also believe that the students' different learning styles should be addressed. Obviously not all students learn the same way, so I will strive to reach all students through differentiation. However I will also work toward improving the students' ability to learn in ways they are not comfortable in so they can continue to become better students.
